What do you believe about literacy? ⚪️Do you What do you believe about literacy?

⚪️Do you believe sound and structure belong together?
⚪️Do you believe students deserve to know why words look the way they do?
⚪️Do you believe understanding should trump memorization?
⚪️Do you believe morphology can begin early — without becoming “one more thing”?

Because we do. 🩵

We believe in anchoring instruction in the base.

We believe in building word families — not affix-of-the-week lists.

We believe spelling, vocabulary, and grammar grow stronger when structure is visible.

We believe teaching for transfer changes everything.

If you’re nodding along… we might be like-minded.

Comment LOGOS and we’ll send you the details about our K–2 Morphology Course & Curriculum, so you can keep nodding alongside us! 💁🏻‍♀️

Creativity has always been my thing and I’ve always wanted to become a “real author”. I feel so blessed that the incredible Yvette Manns saw something special in me to co-create a new series under @phonicsreadalouds ! The Morphology Series!

Our first book, “The-Always-Finished Suffix <-ed>” is a time traveling adventure exploring why this suffix represents 3 different sounds!

If you’re following the Science of Reading resea If you’re following the Science of Reading research, are Sound Walls a must-have?

After all, we see the phrase “Science of Reading aligned” attached to a lot of things these days.

Well, truth be told, there isn’t converging research (yet) that specifically establishes sound walls as an essential, evidence-based component of reading instruction.

That doesn’t invalidate the many teachers who have found them helpful in practice. Anecdotal success matters. Classroom experience matters.

It simply means we need to be careful about labeling something as research-proven when the research base isn’t there yet.

Sound walls may be a supportive tool for some students, especially when they’re paired with strong phonemic awareness and explicit phonics instruction.

But like so many things in literacy, there’s nuance.

Deirdre O’Toole from @playful_classroom, who is currently completing her Ph.D. research on articulatory gestures and early literacy, beautifully breaks down what the research actually says — and what it doesn’t — along with thoughtful implications for classroom instruction.
