We all hear you have to “follow” the Science o We all hear you have to “follow” the Science of Reading research… but that’s not as easy as it sounds.

Dr. Neena Saha shares some of the barriers educators face — from having access to studies living behind paywalls to interpreting scientific jargon.

In this episode, Neena breaks down a lot of the complicated language we see and hear when it comes to research and gives helpful advice on how to interpret findings with our students in mind, to help bridge some potential research to practice gaps.

If you don’t yet follow and watch her monthly Reading Research Recap episodes on YouTube, you must add it to your playlist!

So, you can read a word — but does that mean yo So, you can read a word — but does that mean you know it? 🤔

Being able to read or spell a word doesn’t always mean it’s deeply known.

True word knowledge happens when spelling, sound, and meaning are tightly linked in the brain. That’s called Lexical Quality (Perfetti & Hart, 2002). 🧠

When we strengthen lexical quality, we help students own their words — not just recognize them. And while phonics is essential, it’s not enough on its own. We also need to connect words to their meaning, structure, and use.

✨ Want to learn how to build stronger word learning in your K–2 classroom beyond phonics instruction alone?

👉 Comment “QUALITY” below, and you’ll be the first to know when @snippetsbysarah & my brand-new K–2 Curriculum + Course drops (through @logosliteracyacademy - who also brought you Mastering Morphology!).

This work isn’t about being the best teacher in the room. It’s about surrounding yourself with others who believe all kids deserve access to evidence-based instruction and working together to make that a reality.

Find your people. Build your circle.
Because real change doesn’t happen in isolation… it happens in community. 💙 #ItTakesALeague

Dyslexia exists on a continuum. ❤️ October is Dyslexia exists on a continuum. ❤️

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month and every Friday, I have a ✨BONUS✨ episode highlighting dyslexia.

This week, I’m joined by Casey Harrison, founder of @thedyslexiaclassroom , to talk about what it really means to Teach Beyond the Diagnosis (which also happens to be the title of her new book)!

Casey reminds us that dyslexia doesn’t look the same for every student — and that our job as educators is to figure out a student’s unique learning profile: areas of need & strength alike.
