In this episode, Ashley Doty, founder of @uncomplicateed breaks down retrieval — and other practices within the Science of Learning, in a way that every teacher needs to hear.

A few of my favorite nuggets were:
👉 The more we pull information out of the brain, the stronger it becomes.
👉 Spacing matters… and a little forgetting is actually part of learning.
👉 When we only call on the quickest hands (you know the ones that are always raised)… we’re unintentionally giving some students far more learning opportunities than others.

When students can’t read, they lose access to safety, dignity, opportunity… and freedom.

And the data he shared is impossible to ignore:
📉 Up to 85% of youth in the juvenile justice system are functionally illiterate.
📉 That’s hundreds of thousands of children — mostly boys, disproportionately Black and Latino boys — entering the system every year unable to read.

We don’t just teach reading. We giving our students freedom for their futures.

This episode is one every educator, leader, and policymaker needs to hear.
